Understanding NDIS Transport Funding
Many NDIS participants use their plan's Transport funding (a Core Support) to help cover travel costs, including accessible vehicle hire. It's structured across three levels, based on a participant's individual circumstances:
Level 1
For participants not currently working, studying or attending day programs, but wanting greater community access.
Level 2
For participants working or studying part-time, or attending day programs and community activities.
Level 3
For participants working or studying at least 15 hours a week who can't use public transport due to their disability.
Funding amounts are indexed and reviewed periodically, so we don't list specific dollar figures here — your support coordinator or plan manager will have the most current amounts for your plan.

How does hire align with a participant's plan?
Transport hire is often covered through a participant's Transport funding. Every plan is different, so we'd recommend speaking with your support coordinator — they can help confirm how this fits with your specific plan and organise it on your behalf.
Can I book on behalf of a participant?
Yes — as a coordinator or plan manager, you're welcome to book directly. We just need either payment before the vehicle leaves our premises, or a letter of confirmation from the plan manager guaranteeing payment before the vehicle leaves.
Do your drivers have experience supporting people with disability?
Yes — most of our drivers have worked as support workers before, and every driver is chosen for being caring, patient, and genuinely motivated to help people with disability. Where a driver doesn't already have direct experience, our owners personally educate them on supporting people with disability. That said, while driving you, our drivers are providing a driving service only — not a support work service, even if they have that background. Wheelaway isn't registered or set up as a business to provide support work services, so this stays outside the scope of what our drivers can offer during a booking.
Do you service both Melbourne and Sydney?
Yes — we operate from Boronia, Victoria and Toongabbie, NSW, servicing both Melbourne and Sydney.
What Participants & Families Say
"The effort and care taken by our driver Hermann and the ease of communication with Diane in the booking department were much appreciated. Our driver was punctual and very attentive to my sister's requirements for travel in her wheelchair."
"When we arrived to pick Mum up we realised the hoist wasn't wide enough to fit her chair. We rang Hermann in the hope he might have a bigger one. Not only did he have one, he brought it down to us! You have got yourselves a regular customer here for sure."
