At Wheelaway, we’re always looking for ways to support greater accessibility and inclusivity for all Australians. That’s why we’re proud to share and support the important work of WheelEasy — an innovative not-for-profit organisation that is redefining what access means for people with mobility needs.
What is WheelEasy?
WheelEasy is a crowdsourced accessibility platform — think of it as a TripAdvisor for accessibility. It’s a one-stop shop for access information, helping people find wheelchair-accessible parking, restaurants, public spaces, experiences, accommodation, and more — all in one easy-to-use web and mobile app.
Whether you’re planning a day out, a weekend trip, or simply looking for a new local café, WheelEasy provides real-time, user-generated information to make planning easier, faster, and more reliable for people with mobility challenges — and the families and friends who support them.
Combatting Social Isolation Through Access
WheelEasy was created with a bold but simple mission: to reduce social isolation by improving access to public spaces. For many Australians living with a disability, the lack of clear and reliable access information leads to frustration, stress, and exclusion. As we all experienced during lockdowns, being unable to participate in everyday life can significantly impact mental and physical wellbeing.
WheelEasy is changing that by providing a centralised platform where anyone can add, edit, or share access info — whether you’re a casual visitor, a local resident, or a dedicated volunteer. Every piece of information helps empower others, creating stronger, more connected communities.
Driven by Values, Powered by People
Founded in 2018 and operating with minimal funding, WheelEasy has grown thanks to a passionate team of volunteers and supporters. They do not receive ongoing government funding and rely on donations, partnerships, and community contributions to keep the platform going and growing.
With over 3,000 listed locations (and expanding), they’re actively working to scale their reach across Australia — including Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, and soon Brisbane in preparation for the 2032 Paralympic Games.
How You Can Get Involved
You don’t need to be a developer or accessibility expert to help. You can support WheelEasy by:
- 🧭 Using the platform — Visit www.wheeleasy.org or download the app
- 📍 Adding or updating accessible places you visit
- 💬 Leaving reviews and photos of locations
- 📢 Spreading the word to help others discover this free tool
- 🧡 Volunteering as an Information Manager
- 💰 Donating to support their ongoing work
“Access is something most of us take for granted — but for many Australians, it’s a daily challenge. By sharing our experiences and supporting platforms like WheelEasy, we can create a more inclusive future.”
Let's Build a More Accessible Australia Together
At Wheelaway, we believe that accessibility is a right, not a privilege. That’s why we’re proud to stand beside organisations like WheelEasy that are making everyday experiences easier, fairer, and more enjoyable for all.
We encourage you to visit wheeleasy.org, explore what they do, and get involved.
